Ok, try doing the following. Right click the Start button and go to 'Command Prompt (Admin)'. Next, type (or copy/paste) sfc /scannow and hit Enter. System File Checker will check Windows system files for corruption and attempt to repair any found. If it can't, you'll see a message to that effect. In the latter event, use the same Command Prompt to run the following command which I suggest you copy/paste: DISM.exe/Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth DISM downloads original system files from Microsoft's servers to replace those which the other tool was unable to fix.
It's important therefore that you maintain your Internet connection while it runs. Here's a screenshot of both commands when I ran them on my own computer recently. 0x800f0906 from /Restorehealth I could also provide the DISM.log Something wrong with.NET Framework? There is a guru for that. This is not the guru's blog but it is the top rated post for my search (Microsoft search for 0x800f0906 site:blogs.msdn.com ) Interesting idea to just point to an old ISO for source.
I suppose it gets updated because he wasn't using the /LimitAccess switch? Then could the /source: be empty? That would be handy. Is your 8.1 Image PE or from the Store? Your DISM log may clarify. The /Source, /LimitAccess, and /All arguments can only be used when servicing Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, or Windows® Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) 4.0 images.
Good luck Robert Aldwinckle. Hey guys, thanks for all the help! So, just to add information: The game installer i use is the most recent one. I did the DISM - reinstall of netfx3 from my ISO - that worked fine. I have a windows 8 pro retail installation that got upgraded via store update.
Further info: I looked at the install with CCleaner and have 2 entries for the game. One can be removed by invoking the MSI uninstall, the second one can only be removed by using the CCleaners built in Reg-Key deleter. When i start the installer, it behaves normally, lets me choose the installation directory and everything, but when it should actually start installing stuff, the progress bar just sits there for about 2 seconds and the installer say 'Success'. But no files to be found at the target directory.
Just the two install entries and registry keys. I further want to add, that i had indeed problems with NETFX3 after the 8.1 update, it would not let itself activate or DISM. Only after i did it with the base win8 image mounted, i could do it. Now, the netfx3 files are from the Win8 installation media, but my Windows is on 8.1 - could it be that the netfx3 was updated somehow (or the way windows handles it) and is not compatible anymore?
I noticed that i now have Profile folders for Netfx 4.5 and 4.5 classic. Should there be Profile folders for netfx3, too? Also, how can i provide you guys with my DISM.log - should i just copypaste it into a post here?
